I slowed down when I started paging through John Parkinson’s volume on horticulture, descriptively titled Paradisi in Sole Paradisus Terrestris, or, A choise Garden of all sorts of Rarest Flowers, with their Nature, place of Birth, time of flowring, Names, and Vertues to each Plant, useful in Physick, or admired for Beauty.

To which is. John Parkinson () was an apothecary and herbalist, and was so well respected in his field that he was consulted on the first Pharmacopoeia Londinensis by the College of Physicians. He had a keen interest in gardening, which led to the publication of his first work, Paradisi in Sole Paradisus Terrestris.
